Claiborne Ferry Furniture

Chesapeake Bay from ClaiborneBefore the Chesapeake Bay Bridge was built, Claiborne, MD was home to the Claiborne Ferry. The Ferry was essential for transporting vacationers from the "Other Shore" to the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay. These days Claiborne is a quiet town where some exciting creations are being made.

Post Office; Claiborne, MDClaiborne Ferry Furniture is the creative work of Rob and Susan Murphy working as a team and sharing the belief that, with imagination, sense of humor and love of color, new life can be breathed into attic treasures. Our philosophy is that every piece should be fun for the artist and every piece should be unique. For that reason you will find somewhere on the piece the artist's signature as well as the number of the piece and the date which it was finished. To date we have delivered over 1000 unique pieces for our customers.

Claiborne Ferry Furniture craftsmen recycle old furniture. When we find a deserving piece, it is repaired and reconditioned. The Old Claiborne Ferry Dock Changes to the design may be made in order to make it unusual or fanciful. Adornments might include new sculptural elements, parts of another old piece, stained glass, mirrors, beads, ornamental metalwork, cutouts, or anything else that strikes the artist's fancy. The "new" piece is then painted, further enhancing Claiborne Ferry Furniture's distinctly whimsical character.

Only high quality acrylic-based enamels are used so that all surfaces may be cleaned by simply wiping with a mild solution of soap and water. Commission work is welcome, so please contact us with your ideas.
